Aiden – Specialised Car Seat and Stroller

Aiden is a vibrant six-year-old living with MELAS syndrome. This progressive mitochondrial condition causes gradual loss of mobility, cognitive function and communication.

Aiden also lives with autism and ADHD. This makes daily care and transport more complex for his family.

As Aiden’s condition has progressed, he has become more fatigued. He also needs more support when travelling.

Aiden had outgrown his previous stroller. His existing car seat also no longer met safety standards. This created a serious risk during long car journeys to essential appointments.

Aiden’s family needed urgent support. However, his NDIS plan declined funding because of technical limitations.

In early 2025, MAD provided Aiden specialised car seat and stroller support. MAD funded a KidsFlex specialised car seat and a Convaid Cruiser stroller.

This equipment now helps Aiden travel safely and comfortably. It also gives him the postural support he needs.

His occupational therapist shared:

“MAD Foundation was able to come to the party at a really difficult time, when equipment was needed in a timely manner and we did not have any other viable avenues.

This has meant that Aiden can safely be transported and access the community with his family.
