Yousuf – Custom Wheelchair
Yousuf is almost five years old and lives with bilateral lower limb deficiencies.
He uses prosthetics for short distances. However, discomfort, fatigue and ongoing surgery limit how far he can walk. He will also need further review and prosthetic adjustments as he grows.
Yousuf is not eligible for NDIS support due to his family’s visa status. His family secured partial funding through SWEP, but they needed further support to complete the wheelchair purchase.
As Yousuf prepares to start school in 2026, he needs reliable mobility. A pram no longer gives him the independence, dignity or access he needs.
MAD helped fund a custom Little Wave XP wheelchair, alongside SWEP. The chair will help Yousuf access school, move between classrooms and take part in community activities.
It will also help him build independent wheelchair skills. This gives Yousuf more freedom to explore his world alongside family, friends and classmates.
His physiotherapist shared:
“Yousuf was fitted with his chair at school with Craig from Astris PME and I in attendance alongside his educators and father, Faisal. His face lit up considerably. He took to his chair well and is learning to navigate and maneuver himself independently.
Yousuf is learning to use new bilateral lower limb prosthetics, and his walking is extremely limited at the moment. His wheelchair has brought him much freedom to explore and participate in the community and alongside his family members on the weekends.
You have opened up a new world for this fiercely independent boy and we cannot thank you enough.
Yousuf’s family and I thank you very much for your generosity.”
