Teddy – Momo Therapy Bike

Teddy is a sweet 4 year old boy with a complex medical history, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and surgeries to his feet and legs as an infant. This condition causes weakness to muscles and joints and makes internal organs more prone to rupture, which can be life-threatening. Teddy has many functional difficulties including poor endurance, reduced strength, balance and motor control and these deficits can limit his ability to participate in activities that his peers might easily.

One of Teddy and his parents’ main goals was for him to be able to ride a modified bicycle. The significant cost of these bikes, for a family with extensive medical costs, was prohibitive. MAD Foundation was able to fund a Momo Therapy bike costing $6917.00.

This Momo Therapy bike which includes rear handle, pelvic support and harness allows Teddy to accumulate the necessary physical activity for cardiorespiratory improvements, strength gains, improve his quality of life and his self-esteem. Importantly, for self aware Teddy the modifications look like a “normal” bike and he feels like a big boy riding on his own. The joy of his parents is summed up by his mother’s words…
