On Sunday 6 April 2025, the MAD Foundation community gathered at Treetops in the Melbourne Museum for a special morning of connection and reflection. ‘MAD at the Museum’ brought together families of our beneficiaries, the medical and allied health professionals who refer cases, as well as sponsors, donors, ambassadors, and MAD volunteers. The event created an opportunity for the people who make MAD possible to come together in person and share in the spirit of the organisation.

During the morning, we heard from MAD President Damian Toohey, Beneficiary Ambassador Laura Cooke, Director of the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Dr. Neil Wimalasundera, and Medical Lead of the Complex Care Hub at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Dr. Susie Gibb. Each speaker shared their unique perspective on the importance of MAD’s work in supporting children and young people living with disability and hardship — and how this support is made possible by a caring and engaged community.

For 25 years, MAD has worked closely with referral partners at Victoria’s leading paediatric healthcare organisations including the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Children’s Hospital, the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service and Very Special Kids. These trusted relationships are at the heart of our impact, allowing us to respond quickly and flexibly when families need us most. Our grants fund vital equipment and therapies, often in cases where no other support is available. As the complexity and cost of these needs continue to rise, our community’s support is more essential than ever.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us for MAD at the Museum. Your generosity, compassion and commitment are what enable us to keep making a difference. If you would like to support MAD’s work, you can donate via the link in our website. Together, we’re bringing those in need together with those that can — and building a better future for the children and families who need it most.
