Azad – Apex Kids Manual Wheelchair

 In Thank yous

Azad is a cheerful and curious six-year-old diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects his mobility, communication, and overall development. He attends childcare several days a week and is preparing to start school.

Following a period of physical regression caused by hip inflammation, Azad became increasingly fatigued and was no longer able to use his walker for short distances. Without appropriate mobility support, he relied on an outgrown stroller that lacked the postural support he needed and limited his independence.

In August 2023, MAD supported Azad with an Apex Kids Manual Wheelchair—a lightweight, custom-designed chair with features tailored to his needs. The wheelchair offers proper pelvic and spinal support, a headrest to reduce fatigue, and room to grow. It also folds compactly, helping caregivers manage it more easily during daily routines and travel.

Azad is now using the chair at school and gaining more comfort and freedom in his day-to-day life.

As his mum shared:

“Azad is using his new wheelchair for school. The wheelchair made our life easier. Thanks for the support.”Azad’s mum

With ongoing encouragement and therapy, it’s hoped that Azad will eventually learn to self-propel—giving him greater autonomy in how he moves through the world.
