Malik – Trolli Stroller
Malik is an eight-year-old boy with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and complex lifelong disability.
He uses a customised manual wheelchair for all mobility. The wheelchair gives him the support he needs at school and on the school bus. However, it is very heavy and difficult to lift in and out of the family car.
Malik’s family does not have a wheelchair accessible vehicle. His parents and support worker must lift both Malik and his wheelchair when they travel by car.
This has become increasingly difficult. It has also limited Malik’s access to the community.
Malik loves being outside and going on outings with his family. His occupational therapist noted that he is happiest when he is out and about. These outings also reduce his distress and self-harming behaviours.
MAD funded a Trolli stroller for Malik. The stroller supports his posture and folds compactly for transport. It is much easier for his family and support worker to move in and out of the car.
The stroller will help Malik leave the house more often. It will also help his family visit the local shopping centre, see family and access the community more safely.
His occupational therapist shared:
“Wow, thank you so much on behalf of Malik, his family, and I for MAD’s generosity. When I called Ghadir (mum) to let her know, she broke down in (happy) tears and said to me, ‘thank you for taking the depression away from my heart.’ This stroller will make such an enormous, positive difference.”
