Hurley’s Beard Off

Sunday, November 27th, 2016

Michael Hurley has a thing for outlandish hairstyles.

First it was his dreadlocks, but now in his year away from the game, the Essendon defender has cultivated an impressive and luscious beard.

Now Hurls wants to feel the wind on his chin again, and is aiming to raise $20,000 towards the MAD foundation before shaving it off.

“I have done a bit of stuff with the MAD Foundation for the last 5 or 6 years. Now looking forward to the beard coming off and raising some money for such an amazing charity!” said Hurley

The beard will finally come off on December 5 as Hurley hopes to raise money to purchase much needed equipment for 5 year old cerebral palsy sufferer Rye Johnson. The Shaver Shop has already donated $10,000 which will go towards a new bed for Rye.

“Rye has had a couple of incidents during the night where he has tried to get out of bed and hurt himself so we are trying to help out.” Hurley said.

Hurls and the MAD Foundation community would love your support, so please donate now!

Archie & his new trike

Tuesday, March 1st, 2016

Here at MAD Foundation HQ we receive many heart warming thank-you’s from parents of children we have supported. Every situation is unique. The amount can be large ($10,000+) or small ($500), but the outcome is always the same – it Makes A Difference.

This letter from Archie’s mum is priceless – every kid deserves a bike, and thanks to MAD
Foundation’s generous supporters, Archie received one for Christmas.

Hi MAD Foundation

You kindly funded a bicycle from Body Cycles for my son, Archie, which we received in December 2015.  Given it was so close to Christmas I decided to make it a Christmas present for Archie.  So with Anthea’s help (Archie’s physio from his school) we kept the bike hidden from Archie.

I have attached a photo which shows the wrapped bike.  Archie was able to pull the paper off the bike – he had no idea what was underneath the wrappings.  We videoed Archie unwrapping the bike but my technical incompetence prevents me from attaching the video (and it does go on for a bit!).

The next two photos are of Archie’s first bike ride with his two sisters and cousin.  We drove down to Ringwood Lake and Archie enjoyed riding with the family.  We have turned the bike into a police bike by attaching flashing lights and sirens and Archie was in his element arresting everyone for speeding, jaywalking and stealing each others bikes.

Thank you so very much for your kindness and generosity.  It was so beautiful to see Archie being able to fully and equally join in a family activity.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Yours in gratitude

Barbara
